Gabrijela Ubavić was born in Požarevac, Serbia, where she finished elementary and secondary music education in the department for instrumental music as a pianist and graduated from the theoretical department. She graduated in Solo singing from the Faculty of Music Art in Belgrade, in the class of Professor Mijailovic. She then moved to Vienna, where she continued vocal training with Professor Marija Sklad-Sauer. In 2011, she finished her post-graduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Department of Stage Performing, Opera and Musical Drama, in the class of Professors Reto Nickler and Ivan Pařík.
In 2005, she attended the summer school for young artists in Bayreuth, in 2007, she attended a Master Class with Jose Cura at the Opera Nancy Passion in Nancy, France, and in 2013, she attended a Master Class with Montserrat Caballe in Zaragoza in Spain.
Her first engagement on stage was in October, 2003, in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”, as “Erster Knabe” in the National Theatre, Belgrade. In 2010, she sang soprano solo in Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with the Filharmonia Dolnoslaska and Europera Jugendorchester in Poland, the Czech Republic and in Germany.
Gabrijela Ubavić enjoyed her first major international success in 2010, singing the role of Pamina in Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” in the J. K. Tyl Theatre Plzeň, where she sang also Adina in Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” and Gilda in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” - for this role she was chosen for the nomination for the prestigious award Thalia 2011. Her operatic repertoire includes also roles such Romilda in Händel’s “Xerxes”, Norina in Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale”, Zerlina in Mozart´s “Don Giovanni”, Musetta in Puccini´s “La bohème“. Except the Czech Republic she sang in Serbia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, France and Italy. In June 2014 she will come out with the role of Violetta in Verdi´s "La traviata" in Plzeň and as Yvette and Georgette in Puccini´s "La rondine" in the National Theatre in Prague.
Gabrijela Ubavić in 2012, occupied the 2. place in Antonín Dvořák´s International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary in the category Opera singing and she won the Conductor František Drs´prize and the prize of the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. In 2013 she won the 1. place in the category Opera singing, and the main prize of the laureate of the competition, the prize of the Mayor of Karlovy Vary as the best point rated participant of the competition, and the price of the National Theatre in Prague and the price of the public jury.
After her performance in Nancy after the Master Class with Jose Cura in 2007 the critic wrote: "Very deserving, a young soprano moves on the stage gracefully but without affectation… We are struck at once by the consistency of her tone, luxuriously copper-colored, so to speak, rich and full but very docile, effortless. We learn with astonishment from the program that she also sings roles requiring great vocal agility, like Gilda (Rigoletto) and Norina (Don Pasquale)..."
